This course explores family and gender in contemporary Japan from an anthropological and sociological perspective. It will examine various aspects of Japanese family and gender, including:
1) gender and sexuality, 2) modern family structures and the ways in which they shape individuals,\ 3) the workplace and its gender relations, 4) sexuality and the transformation of masculinity and femininity, 5) family and its alternatives and 6) the elderly and family rituals, in a shifting social landscape. |
