For a recent project, I have started watching Japanese movies. That is discluding anime, series and dramas.
#2 Properly do things There was no explanation as to what was supposed to be done properly, but one thing I've learned from Japanese cinema is that there is a proper way to do things. Drinking tea, having guests over, entering the house, getting married, etc. All things have a proper way of being done. And if you don't go about getting a marriage blessing that way, you're likely to be shunned or verbally reprimanded by a parental figure. #3 Bushido Another thing I learned from Japanese cinema is that you only sound cooler when you speak Japanese with samurai grammar. It is a formal style of grammar that was commonly used by samurai, which has become popular among some groups (especially anime/samurai otaku).
It surprises me to see how it is viewed from a Japanese perspective. Movies show how history has changed their culture, moving towards an individualistic lifestyle. There are some surprising movies that show a great amount of strength in how little bias there are. There are people on either side of the idea, yet there are plenty of movies who portray it like it is, a good thing that is also destroying the traditional Japanese culture. #5 Washing Clothes
It is the funniest thing to learn from Japanese cinema. In fact it has little to nothing to do with the culture, other than the fact that many people in Japan hang dry their clothes. Hang drying is not common in America, as most Americans prefer to use a machine dryer directly after washing their clothes. Hang drying is done with particular clothes that would otherwise be damaged by the dryer. There is also a net involved in washing. I have never seen a net used in washing clothes in America, but it is a popular tool for washing clothes. What seemed at first to be the furthest thing from culture turns out to be a simply mundane lesson about Japanese culture. Leave a Reply. |
